And despite popular belief, it’s not because it just feels so good that she can’t contain herself. In fact, it might actually be because she’s bored.

It’s called a female copulatory vocalization call and it’s an evolutionary development that serves as an adaptive solution to problems that females primates face. Not even just humans.

For example, moaning so loudly your neighbors can hear subconsciously creates a sense of competition amongst the males who hear it. This competitive spirit causes the performing male to do his best which increases the chances of obtaining high quality sperm.

Calls may also be used a type of mate retention mechanism. Women who perceive high levels of infidelity in their relationship are more likely to utilize copulatory vocalizations than those who do not.

One of the most common reasons women moan is because they believe it will lead to a faster ending.

Reasons that women provided to researchers for desiring a quicker conclusion include the alleviation of pain, fatigue, or even boredom.
If it’s any consolation, most women also told researchers they do this to boost the males esteem and generally to bond with their mate. But whether a woman is doing to it to bond or due to boredom, the male may never know.
