So there’s this neurological condition called synesthesia, where your senses are cross-wired in a way that allows you to, for example, see colors when you hear music or taste flavors when you read words.
Imagine that hearing someone say the word 'apple' could actually cause you to taste an apple in your mouth, or that when you listen to music, you also see colors dancing along to the drums in the song. These are relatively rare experiences of synesthesia, but there are more common forms that you are much more likely to have experienced yourself.
Pause for a moment, close your eyes, and try to envision the letter 'A'. Once you have the idea of it in your mind, ask yourself if the color of the 'A' that you were imagining happened to be red. If so, you just experienced a more common form of synesthesia known as Grapheme-Color Synesthesia. This occurs when individuals perceive letters or numbers (graphemes) as inherently colored.
There is also Ordinal Linguistic Personification synesthesia. Individuals with OLP involuntarily attribute human-like characteristics, such as personalities or genders, to sequenced categories such as letters or months.
So, for example, the letter 'A' might be perceived as a woman, or it may be perceived as a stern, authoritative figure. While this might at first glance, seem rare, I actually hypothesize that this might actually be the most common form of synesthesia of them all. I hypothesize that the majority of us have actually been subconsciously attributing human-like characteristics to one particular category throughout our entire lives.
And perhaps these human-like characteristics that we are projecting could actually serve as a mirror for how we subconsciously view ourselves.
Weekday Theory*
Weekday Theory proposes that there are 7 distinct personality types… and it only takes answering one question to find out which one you are:
Q: What day of the week are you?
This simple question will yield seven different results from seven distinctly different people, and Weekday Theory proposes that individuals who self-identify with the same day of the week are likely to share similar habits and perspectives. For instance, anyone who identifies as a 'Monday' is unlikely to also identify themselves as 'lazy'. This is because society generally attributes the human-like characteristic of productivity to Mondays, which is of course antithetical to laziness. This is why one can deduce that “Monday people” likely have similar habits and behaviors that are distinctively unlike those of “lazy” people.
Weekday Theory is based on the idea that society generally attributes the same human-like characteristics to certain days of the week. For example, productivity and ambition to Mondays and Tuesdays, and leisure and relief to Saturdays and Sundays. This is why answering this one simple question may actually present an unexplored opportunity to observe how we truly, subconsciously, and internally view ourselves.
